I think John Madden had more talent then he's given credit for.

Also, the successful Devil's teams had some very good offenses and forwards. The A line was the standout but there were always guys who could score. Claude Lemieux, Richer, MacLean, Molgilny, Langenbrunner, Elias, Gomez, BRIAN Gionta... maybe not amongst the most talented NHL forwards but some really good guys.

Also, in 2000 we scored the second most goals in the league. So while the D got a lot of the accolades those teams could score fairly well.

NJ and DET were most dominant teams of that era, with total opposite playing styles. Fun stuff.

Nice blog. And without looking pretty sure Elias leads in Shorthanded points. Led the devils in almost every offensive category.

Didn’t look either, but Madden probably leads in most short handed stats, Elias leading in everything else.

The biggest reason the Devils made their 2012 run was because that fourth line caused problems (Gionta, Carter, and Bernier). When your depth can score, I call them "spinebreaker" goals because it gives the other team's head coach headaches when it comes to match-ups in the playoffs.

Is anybody still using Kodi to watch nhl.tv? If so are you having any streaming issues?

I'm not sure about that. Their major problem was riding Kovalchuk too hard, to the point where he was burnt out or injured, and still playing him 26 minutes a night. Peter Deboer said he had not idea how to coach playoff hockey until his first season with the sharks. 4th line was not great, but also nowhere near their major issue. Not to mention Quick was on fire at the time.

Very nice blog. Please write more.

If Madden had more finish, he would have been one of the best defensive forwards of all time. It felt like a breakaway or 2 on 1at least once a game for him.
